Living in a Religiously Diverse World
As you know, we live in a religiously diverse world. There are people of different faiths (or none at all) in our extended families and in our workplaces. We are more aware than ever of the complicated role that differing religious beliefs can play in world events.
Living in religiously diverse families, workplaces, country, and world raises some interesting questions:
How do we understand the role of Christianity in light of different faiths? Is Christianity the only way to God, or one of many paths to God? Is Jesus' "way" narrow or broad?
How does the encounter with other faiths shape our Christian faith and practice? For example, I know my approach to Scripture has been influenced and deepened by Jewish Biblical interpretation. My prayer life has been shaped, in part, by Buddhist meditation practices.
How can people of different faiths co-exist instead of fighting over who's right?
I'm excited that David Grafton, professor of Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Dialogue, and regular at God on Tap, will be our guest facilitator for this topic. David brings great knowledge and sensitivity to this topic. He won't be presenting. He'll be helping us to reflect together on our encounters with other religions and the questions, concerns, and enrichment it brings.
